Modern queer dance luminary Andy Butler is back, just in time for Pride month, with the announcement of a massive new multi-part project under his Hercules & Love Affair moniker.
Titled Danseur, the dancefloor-centric EP is being rolled out in two parts via Stratasonic Records, and Butler has just unleashed its commanding lead single: “I Get High” featuring Hips & Lips.
Musically, “I Get High” is a dazzling explosion of Hi-NRG and classic new wave, paying brilliant homage to electronic pioneers like Patrick Cowley, Giorgio Moroder, and Lime. Created alongside longtime collaborators Elín Ey (Hips & Lips) and Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London), the track carries that unmistakable, raw chemical energy found in their shared love for acid house, disco, and darker underground sounds. It captures the same emotional current that has defined Hercules & Love Affair since the iconic 2008 masterpiece “Blind.”

Beyond the infectious, peak-time groove, the track carries a vital, urgent message. As Butler explains, the song tackles what he considers one of the last frontiers of LGBT rights: "to embrace and encourage the romantic partners of trans and nonbinary people to come out, and leave the lie of shame behind."
It’s the perfect introduction to the upcoming Danseur EPs, which play out like a collection of beautifully miniature tales from the LGBTQ+ community—spanning historical nods to New York’s iconic BoyBar, deeply personal reflections on the HIV crisis, and poignant tributes to late icons SOPHIE and Aerea Negrot. With "I Get High," Hercules & Love Affair reminds us once again why house music has always been the ultimate sanctuary for identity, intimacy, and unfiltered liberation.
"I Get High" is out now via Stratasonic Records. 'Danseur PT 1' drops on July 14, followed by 'PT 2' on September 10.
