SOFI TUKKER Drops New Single “Bread” Featuring Seu Jorge

by Machine Mechanics

Genre-defying, GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER return with a fresh taste of what’s to come on their upcoming album butter, releasing May 16 via Virgin Music Group.

The first single, “Bread” featuring iconic Brazilian artist Seu Jorge, is out now and offers a delicious preview of the jazzy, Brazilian-inspired sonic palette the duo will fully unveil later this month.

After the massive success of their 2024 album BREAD, described by Cosmopolitan as “as dance-y as it is deep,” SOFI TUKKER are turning the page with butter — a jazz-inflected, genre-blending tribute to Brazil and its rich musical heritage. This upcoming project isn’t just a remix album; it’s a full-bodied reinvention. With elements of MPB, bossa nova, samba, bolero, bachata, and even reggae, butter showcases the duo’s organic side, trading in EDM drops for lush instrumentals and soul-soaked grooves — without losing their signature bold energy.

The album’s lead single “Bread” introduces this new era with style. Featuring the unmistakable vocals of Seu Jorge, it’s a breezy, sun-soaked collaboration that sets the tone for butter’s top-down road trip through Brazilian soundscapes. The “butter version” of the track clocks in at a perfect 2:39 — compact, catchy, and endlessly replayable.

Over a decade in the making, butter finds its roots in SOFI TUKKER’s 2018 collaboration with The Knocks, “Brazilian Soul,” which has racked up over 50 million streams. That track’s viral success marked the beginning of their deepening connection to Brazilian rhythms — and now, it fittingly closes out butter as a full-circle moment.

Recorded in Brazil with an array of local musicians, butter is SOFI TUKKER like you’ve never heard them before. Several fan-favorite tracks from BREAD — including “Throw Some Ass,” “Woof,” “Hey Homie,” and “Spiral” — have been reimagined through a Brazilian lens, offering a warm, organic counterpoint to their electronic counterparts.

To accompany the release, the duo — Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern — have launched a butter behind-the-scenes docuseries, with Episode 1 available now and more to follow in the coming weeks.

Their calendar is just as jam-packed as their musical repertoire. In 2025, SOFI TUKKER will kick off a new Las Vegas residency with Wynn Nightlife and are confirmed for major festivals including BottleRock Napa Valley (May 23), Breakaway Ohio (May 30), World Pride DC (June 6–7), and the iconic Newport Jazz Festival (Aug 1–3), where they'll perform a special butter set.

With roots in activism and fashion as well — from launching their WET TENNIS clothing line to raising over $90,000 for environmental causes — SOFI TUKKER continue to prove that their artistry goes far beyond the studio.

Listen to “Bread” now and pre-save butter to be the first to dive into their most adventurous musical journey yet.
